Discipleship Means
What happens after Lent? Does it draw us nearer to Christ? Jesus in this passage of Scripture calls us to make a meaningful commitment. Vs. 34 – Jesus said, “If anyone will come, deny daily and follow me”. What does it mean to take up your cross?
Let us examine what Discipleship means:–
A. Discipleship means embracing God’s will: The Cross of Calvary was the symbol Jesus embraced. To do His Father’s will, Jesus had to:-
- Say No to Sin:– the devil tempted Him many times, but He had to say get thee behind me Satan.
- Say No to Self:– Matthew 26:39, tells us that Jesus talked to Himself through His Father. He stated not my will but Thine. It is about God’s way and not our way, we have to remove ourselves from the picture.
- Say Yes to Submission:– Jesus emptied Himself and became obedient to God. The greatest example is Jesus’ death on the cross. There must be submission between husbands and wives, and one another for peace sake.
- Say Yes to Sacrifice:- Sacrifice will cost you and me, Mark 10:45, says that He gave His all for us. You must deny yourself and make some kind of sacrifice if you want to follow Jesus and be a part of His kingdom.
B. Discipleship means Embracing Greatness : – We can only embrace greatness by becoming a servant. The purpose of this is to get the right understanding of how we can and must serve as a servant. Jesus washed His disciples feet, He came not to be served but to serve.
